Untitled Cantilever Project
ARC3011A | Rachael McCall Studio
Fall 2025

A structural emphasis is placed on this project, with the task of extending a platform out and over a nondescript cliff edge, while maintaining tectonic and structural sobriety. This task was given the added wrinkle of requiring a 50 sq-ft fully-enclosed space. This project was achieved through the use of interweaving systems of facade, structure and enclosure. The facade is a matrix of lightweight aluminum panels welded to a network of hollow steel tubes. These are held up structurally by a web of I-beams, steel tubes and the overlook structure itself. The overlook structure is a steel truss system, with glass and prefabricated floor and ceiling panels acting as the enclosure.
